The Black Poplar is a huge and iconic 100-year-old tree in the centre of York Gardens. It is “the Captain Tom Moore of trees”, having survived two world wars and is estimated to have lived to the amazing age of 100.

More than unfortunately:

‘‘The tree is located in a position which is not compatible with the park design and perimeter road as well as the proposed blocks fronting York Road. It therefore must be removed to facilitate the masterplan development’.”

– local planning officers

The campaign to save York Gardens has now occupied the Black Poplar in order to save it from destruction.

Help us save the tree! – It’s life is still under threat, as well as 123 others in the area that are at risk from this development!
